Albania Increases Minimal Wage, Pensions
Minister of Economy and Finances, Delina Ibrahimaj presented on Wednesday the decisions taken at the government meeting, informing that the minimum wage will go to ALL 34,000, while pensions will increase by 9.5%.
During her speech, Ibrahimaj also talked about the Transparency Boards, saying that they have done their jobs in regulating prices and that they will continue to operate in Albania.
"With this second indexation, we bring the pension increase to the level of 9.5% compared to the pensions received at the end of last year. 678 thousand pensioners benefit. This decision comes into effect with the retirement of the month of September.
The minimum wage will come into effect at 34,000 ALL and this is a decision that affects a large number of employees, over 200,000. In total, we have about 900,000 citizens who benefit from pensions and the increase in minimum wages.
We have decided that we are a government that supports the free market, and not intervention in setting prices, but extraordinary times influence us for extraordinary decisions. Both these boards have done their job.
We will continue to hold the boards, as long as we will be affected by the exponential increase in international prices in order to guarantee that citizens pay the lowest possible price and limit price speculation", emphasized the Minister.
