Albania Must Advance Reforms for Rule of Law; Michel
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, declared from Tirana that Albania must advance reforms for the rule of law and fight corruption in order to make further progress in the country's EU integration process.
During the joint press conference with Prime Minister Rama and European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, Michel also announced that the EU will approve additional aid packages to help the Western Balkans from the consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
"We all have our duties. There are expectations that reforms in the rule of law, reforms in justice and the fight against corruption will advance. On the other hand, the European Union must strengthen the common market. One of these is the roaming agreement. In 2027, roaming charges are expected to be completely abolished.
Recently, concrete progress has been made to confront the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the economic and energy consequences that this war has brought," said Michel.
He also added that immigration is a challenging topic for the entire EU and emphasized that common policies should be undertaken to manage this situation as best as possible.
"It is very important to have a financial package to help the countries of the region to face this situation.
I should say a few words about immigration. It is a challenging subject. We are faced with increasing numbers and this cooperation with the Western Balkans is necessary for all of us. Additional decisions must be made and further progress must be made to jointly manage this situation," he said.
