Albania Paralyzed by Bad Weather Conditions
Albania has been affected by bad weather for several days, while the peak arrived last night with heavy rainfall in the south, which have caused rivers to swell, flooding so far tens of hectares of land in Gjirokastra, Tepelena and Vlora.
According to field reports, the rains were quite intense yesterday evening in the triangle Gjirokastër-Përmet-Vlora, consequently bringing the rivers out of bed.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that the level of the Vjosa on the Mifol Bridge has reached 7 meters, which has frightened the residents of the surrounding villages that there may be greater flooding during the evening hours.
The situation does not seem to be very promising for the south as it appears from the reports of regional meteorological stations, heavy rains will continue tonight in the same area. Although not with last night’s intensity, heavy rainfall is expected to start during the late evening hours continuing through the night.
The weather is expected to improve during the next day where most of the territory will be characterized by clear weather, but with low temperatures.
Considering the bad weather, the Albanian Road Authority (ARA) appealed on drivers traveling to places covered by snow to be equipped with winter tires and to respect road signs by reducing speed.
"Vehicle drivers to be careful during the trip, to respect the signs to reduce speed, to be equipped with chains and winter tires", announced ARA.
