Albania: Polls Close in Five Municipalities After Low Voter Turnout
Polling stations have officially closed in five Albanian municipalities, in Mat, Tepelene, Vlore, Berat and Cerrik, where voters cast their ballots today to elect the five new mayors.
A total of 334,539 people were eligible to vote, with polling stations opening at 07:00 and closing at 18:00 local time.
According to early data, voter turnout was really low, particularly in the coastal city of Vlorë. By 17:00, one hour before polls closed, turnout stood at just 18.55%, with reports suggesting limited participation among young voters.
The elections were held to replace five mayors who left their posts after being elected to parliament or appointed to ministerial positions.
