Albania’s New Covid-19 Cases Keep Climbing due to Delta Variant’s Entry

Constant and worrisome increase of the fresh coronavirus infections has been seen in Albania since the first cases of the Delta variant were confirmed some days ago. The Ministry of health and Social Protection reported Thursday that 47 citizens have turned out positive for the SARS-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours, after a total of 3025 tests.

Tirana leads the most-affected-areas list with 19 new cases, followed by Elbasan, Kuçovë, Pogradec, Lezha and then Korça, with respectively 6, 5, 4, 3 and one cases. The lowest number of infections was registered in Shkodër, Durrës, Kukës, Kavajë, Lushnje, Sarandë, Delvina and Poliçan, according to the Health Ministry of Albania.

Bright side of the entire pandemic situation is that no fatalities have been recorded in these 24 hours, differently from Wednesday, when the first virus-inflicted death was marked after one month without any fatalities.

Furthermore, 13 citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of cured to 130,187 since the beginning of the epidemic. At the time being, there are 355 active COVID19 patients nationwide and 18 patients are receiving specialized treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.

“The Ministry of Health appeals to citizens to be vaccinated against Covid19, to protect themselves and their loved ones and to stop the spread of the dangerous virus.

Anticovid vaccines reduce the chance of infection and avoid high hospitalizations and fatalities”, appealed the top health office of Albania in the meantime.
