Albania’s PM Urges Region to Embrace 5G Tech Deal with US

Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has met this Sunday with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels, where they signed the agreement on 5G technology coordination.

In his speech after the signing, Rama said that efforts should be made for this initiative to be embraced by other countries in the region, adding that he hopes that this will not be compromised by third actors.

Earlier today, Rama described his meeting with Blinken as friendly as he informed that the above agreement for the coordination of 5G technology has been signed between Albania and the USA.

"It is an important moment. We have taken this initiative on our part, asking others, countries in the region, to join and all together make efforts for a secure communication corridor.

Let’s put this corridor of services in the hands of Albanian institutions and not allow it to be compromised by third actors who are sometimes malicious.

Albania is proud to be by your side and the US, always. Thank you very much for this and I hope that together we will convince other friends in the Region", stressed Rama.

On his part, Secretary Blinken thanked the Albanian Head of Government for the signing step, adding that the United States feels honored to be Albania’s ally.

"Thank you, very important for the work we have done together. We are setting a strong example of the need to work with trusted people when it comes to technology networks.

We are grateful of what the US and Albania have done together in certain areas, such as Defender 21. We are looking forward to you taking your place in UN security. This partnership will be long remembered. Thank you for your support, we appreciate it very much, really", is reported to have said State Secretary Blinken.
