Albania's Regional COVID Wards Closed after Significant Fall in Infections

Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu has declared Tuesday the closure of Covid wards in the regional hospitals. The hospitals in question will now return to normal and whenever there are new cases, they will be referred to the Hospital of Infectious Diseases in Tirana, she pointed out.

From the Regional Hospital of Elbasan, the Health Minister said that the possibility of treating patients in a Covid hospital is being assessed, given the low hospitalization figures.

Furthermore, Manastirliu added that the Technical Committee of Experts is assessing the situation and a revaluation in the context of relief is being considered, but it will always be a controlled, gradual reopening.

"Closure of wards in the regional hospitals restores these hospitals to a normal situation and we are talking here about the Regional Hospital of Elbasan, which today no longer has hospitalized patients. The cases that will be triaged in the hospital of Elbasan will be referred to the hospital Covid1 in Tirana.

Just as the infectious disease ward at the Durrës Regional Hospital and the one at the Shkodra Regional Hospital are in the process of being closed. These were the three hospitals or three wards in the three regional hospitals that responded to the second scenario.

Today, we are in a very controlled epidemiological situation, where the fact that we are closing the wards in regional hospitals and we are also evaluating the possibility of concentrating the cases of patients in a single hospital, given that we have few numbers, shows that we are in the moment to review the current measures that are currently decided", said Manastirliu.

On the other hand, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, the Chairman of the Socialist Parliamentary Grou,p Taulant Balla and the Mayor of Elbasan, Gledian Llatja have praised the work of the medical staff in dealing with covid19.
