Albania-Turkey Agree to Boost Co-op in Customs

Increased cooperation between the two administrations, especially in the exchange of information, but also the facilitation of procedures for business of both countries, were at the center of the bilateral meeting with the Director General of Albanian Customs, Genti Gazheli, and senior delegation of the Turkish Customs headed by two general directors, Mustafa Gumus and Murat Yaman.

In the spirit of cooperation between the two governments, the meeting was greeted also by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Anila Denaj.

"Turkey is one of our important trading partners and cooperation between customs administrations will serve to increase assistance, exchange information and improve services,” Denaj said. “We remain committed to concretize initiatives and projects that will serve both our countries.”

During the meeting, Gazheli acquainted his counterparts with the innovations of the Albanian customs system, and stressed the role of the two administrations as very important in promoting, developing and facilitating trade.

Seeing the new stage of relations between the two countries, Gazheli proposed to his Turkish counterparts the deepening of institutional cooperation through an Memorandum of Understanding in the exchange of periodic information in order to protect state interests and consumer protection, the fight against illegal trafficking, narcotics, money laundering, as well as the prevention of terrorist threats.

Turkish General Director Gumus praised the relations so far and said that the cooperation will be further deepened with joint initiatives and projects in the field of IT, logistics, customs laboratory, etc.

Among the main issues discussed between the delegations were: cooperation in the field of programs and risk management; exchange of information related to the legislation in force; information technology and expected developments; logistics assistance; assistance and cooperation in the field of customs laboratories.
