Albanian Language in Schools Mentioned for 1st Time in Greek Parliament
For the first time in the Greek Parliament, there were talk of Vlach, Albanian and Slavo-Macedonian national minorities. This happened during a debate in the Greek Parliament on April 8, 2022. It was the MP of "Mera 25" in the Greek Parliament, Sofia Sakorafa, who mentioned Albanians as a minority in Greece.
Her statement has sparked outrage within Greece, with many politicians opposing it. The MP specifically during her speech in the Assembly, talking about a minority "Vlach", "Albanian" and "Slavo-Macedonian" in Greece, has asked that their languages ??be taught in schools in the country.
"We have an obligation in the educational process, in schools, to give minorities the opportunity to experience their linguistic diversity and tradition. A parenthesis here: Finally, the Greek state has an obligation to overcome the phobic and complex treatment of the particular languages ??and culture of its communities. National solidarity and the existence of the nation are not threatened by them, the Vlachs, the Albanians or the Slavo-Macedonians. And no one has the right to be proud of the history of the Greek state in this field," said the MP.
