Albanian Teams Threaten Govt with Protests

Albanian Superliga teams have repeated this Friday they will boycott new season 2020/21 and will hold protests, if their requirements to cope with pandemic crisis made to the government are not met.

This was pronounced by the presidents of Albanian clubs from Minsk, where they have gone upon the request of President of Albanian Football Association (AFA) Armand Duka, to follow the match Belarus-Albania, which will be played this Friday at 20:45.

"We invite the Government to the negotiating table. Our four demands are a very small part of the government's long-standing, repeated false promises. The government must listen to us and meet these minimum requirements.

We will not back down from our championship boycott until we are heard. On September 12 our Superliga will not start. We will protest in the boulevards of Albania and we will not return to the green fields of the stadiums, without fulfilling all four of our demands.

We will make known to the domestic and international public the catastrophic situation of the Albanian clubs due to the wrong and irresponsible policies of the Albanian state and government," the joint statement of clubs noted.

The four requirements:

a. Reduce VAT by 6%.

b. Remissions of fines and interest on arrears of tax, fiscal obligations.

c. Extension of the period of exemption from profit tax on football players' income from 2-10 years.

d. Adopt the real Sponsorship Law, instead of government fraud, which today is propagated as the Sports Sponsorship Law.
