Category of People that Must Declare Assets to Be Expanded
More people in Albania will be forced to declare their assets. The ruling party presented this Thursday in Parliament last changes in the draft law on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.
In the current law, the control of assets includes politically exposed individuals up to 3 years after leaving office as those individuals who are obliged to declare their assets or those individuals who have or have had important functions within the country as mayor state, prime minister, minister, deputy minister or similar positions, members of parliament or governing bodies of political parties.
New changes will obligate even the relatives of these officials as well to declare their assets as the spouse or cohabitant, persons related in close personal employment or business relationship of the official.
Nevertheless, the proposed changes to the law come at a time when the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have begun work on many files related mainly to corruption of senior officials and money laundering.
