Committee against President to Gather Immediately after Set-Up

Albania’s Parliament has set Friday the date when the first meeting of the Inquiry Committee on President of the Republic, Ilir Meta will take place, after 97 MPs voted in favor, 6 against and 1 abstained.

Based on the official announcement of the Parliament, the first meeting will take place on Saturday, dated 8.05.2021 at 11:00.

A day ago, the names of the MP in the Committee were published, and the Chair is expected to be the MP Alket Hyseni, while part of this inquiry body will also be MPs of the parliamentary opposition such as: Myslim Murrizi, Halil Jakimi and Arlind Çaçani.

Meanwhile, the term of the Inquiry Committee is expected to be one month, during which all the arguments raised by the Socialist Party for the dismissal of the President will be considered. The decision to dismiss the President must be supported by at least 2/3 of the members of Parliament.

On the other hand, the Presidency has reacted after the Parliament voted to set up an inquiry committee that will probe into the alleged constitutional violations committed by President Ilir Meta.

Through the spokesperson, Tedi Blushi, President expresses his deep regret that the one-party Assembly rejected the opportunity given by Him to return to the rails of the Constitution and the Law.

"In these conditions, we inform that the Institution of the President of the Republic will not recognize any unconstitutional and illegal decision or activity of the one-party Assembly in office, as well as the decisions of any other puppet institution of this kleptocratic regime”, has stated Blushi among other things.
