Covid-19, Albania’s Infections Keep Climbing amid Growing Deaths

Further negative developments regarding the pandemic situation have been recorded this Wednesday in Albania as 44 more infections more than a day ago were logged in the last 24 hours. According to today’s update of the number by Ministry of Health and Social Protection, 844 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 after 7725 tests.

Unfortunately, three citizens passed away due to the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, including a very young man. The victims were: a 20-year-old citizen from Korça with a concomitant disease, a 69-year-old citizen from Shkodra and an 81-year-old citizen from Vlora.

Tirana was once again on top of the most-infected-area’s list with 246 infections, followed by Shkodra, Durres and Vlora, with 119, 41 and 37 new cases respectively. On the other hand, Poliçan, Dimal, Devoll, Këlcyrë, Libohovë, Mallakastër, Mat and Has had 2 new infections each, while Mirdita, Klos, Delvina, Përmet, Memaliaj and Skrapar had only 1 case each.

“7725 tests were performed, from which positive results were obtained with Covid19, 844 citizens, in these municipalities:

246 cases in Tirana, 119 in Shkodra, 41 in Durrës, 37 in Vlora, 35 in Lezha, out of 29 cases in Kavaja, Kruja, 26 in Saranda, 23 cases in each Vau i Dejes, Fier, 21 in Elbasan, 20 cases in each Berat, Kamza, 19 in Kurbin, 18 cases in each Malësi e Madhe, Lushnja, 11 in Kukës, 10 in Kuçovë, 8 in Gramsh, 6 in Vora, 5 cases in each Rrogozhina, Divjaka, Gjirokastra, Pogradec, Peqin, 4 cases in each Librazhd, Belsh, Kolonja, Korça, Selenica, 3 cases in each Shijak, Dibra, Patos, Himara, Maliq, Cerrik, 2 cases in each Poliçan, Dimal, Devoll, Këlcyra, Libohova, Mallakastra, Mat, Has, 1 case in each Mirdita, Klos, Delvina, Përmet, Memaliaj, Skrapar”, announced the Health Ministry.

Presently, the number of actively ill with the coronavirus persons throughout Albania has struck 7070 and 91 patients are receiving specialized medical treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, according to the latest data released by the top health office.

On a brighter picture, 204 citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of cured to 131,812 since the beginning of the epidemic.

In the event of a worsened pandemic situation, the Ministry of Health appealed to citizens to be vaccinated as soon as possible, to protect themselves and their loved ones and to stop the spread of the dangerous virus.

August is an open month of antiCOVID vaccination for every citizen +18 years old. AntiCOVID vaccines reduce the chance of infection and greatly avoid hospitalizations and fatalities, the Ministry added.

“If you suspect you may be affected by COVID19 or have any signs of illness, isolate yourself immediately and contact your GP for testing or call the National Emergency number at unique 127”, underlined the health department of the Albanian government.
