Darëzeza Bridge Collapses in Fier

The Darëzeza bridge in Fier collapsed this Thursday morning, leaving the residents of the surrounding villages isolated.

The bridge crumbled as a heavy tonnage truck was passing by. As a result, two heavy-duty vehicles ended up in the river.

On May 6, some residents of the area told the media that the works for the repair of the bridge had stopped. They blamed the construction company for not starting the works, risking the collapse of the bridge and the blocking of the residents.

The Albanian Development Fund tendered the construction of the new bridge in March 2021, worth 280 thousand euros. According to the tender documents, the company with the highest offer, ‘Vëllezërit Hysa’, must build the new automobile bridge by the middle of July.

The Darëzeza Bridge collapsed due to torrential rains in December 2017, and since then, the Army has built a makeshift bridge to facilitate the passage of residents.

The collapse of the bridge interrupts the communication of the villagers with other villages in the area and comes just a few days after the opening of the tourist season. As a result, it will greatly damage the businesses that this coastal area has.
