Democrat Warns Further Shrinking of Albania’s Population
Albania’s population has shrunk by 2.7% since 2013-2014 and it will continue to deepen in the following years, declared Tuesday the elected Member of Parliament of the Democratic Party (DP), Flutura Açka.
The Democrat sees the aging of the Albanian population as a significant problem and said that there must first be mental prosperity to make Albania more likeable, especially for the youth.
In addition, she said that the civic platform for opposition democracy and the PD plan focus on helping families.
"This curve has been going on for years, I'm talking about the last 10 years. If you look at the death curve which does not change much except 2020, the birth curve is always going down.
Especially the big discount starts from 2013-2014, which means that the Albanian population is shrinking. According to INSTAT data, the population has shrunk by 2.7%. What will happen, this worried me.
The public has in mind our project, the PD project on the family, to help the Albanian family. The Albanian family is the hardest hit in recent years. Over 400,000 Albanians have left.
It is not a phenomenon of the Albanians of Albania, but also of Kosovo. This contraction will be even greater in the coming years, which puts us in doubt as a nation.
The project very well reflects what is needed for the Albanian family. These figures, which are public, are official, not politicalâ€, pronounced Açka among other things.
On Monday, Açka stated that thousands of Albanian young people do not see their homeland as the right place where they create a family as she pointed out that insecurity about the future has even made the new families afraid to have children.
In her statement, the Democrat implied that this year's fertility figures have hit the rock bottom and follow the fate of other years, adding that in the second quarter of 2021 alone births fell by 10.6%.
Moreover, Açka proclaimed that Albania is a tax haven only for a select minority of oligarchs affiliated with the Socialist Party (SP), who enjoy the blessing of Prime Minister Edi Rama’s “corrupt†governance and control over Albanians’ money.
“Albania is shrinking every day. Albanians leave the homeland that does not give them the opportunity to live with dignity. Of the young people who roam the cafes every day he only hears complaining about unemployment and lack of prospects.
The uncertainty of the future has encouraged young Albanian families to have children, thousands of other young people no longer see their homeland as the place to build a family. This year's fertility figures are sad and follow the fate of other years; in the second quarter of 2021 alone, births fell by 10.6%â€, communicated the Democrat a day before.
