DP Thinks Premier Is Manipulating Electoral System before April Polls
Chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) Lulzim Basha has expressed Monday concern that pre-election climate is being destroyed in Albania and that Prime Minister Edi Rama is trying to manipulate the system prior to upcoming elections of April 25.
Basha also blamed the Head of Government for prioritizing his own and his thieves’ personal financial profits over the people and for putting his power over Albanian’s EU integration.
Moreover, the Opposition Leader welcomed European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi’s stance on the Electoral Code amendments. The latter declared earlier today he believes the Venice Commission to provide “swift advice to Albanian stakeholders on the implementation of the Constitutional Changes of 30 July. Parliament should consider waiting for a revote to take this advice into account. Look forward to free&fair elections in April 2021â€.
“The commissioner's statement must be current. It is clear, I greet the declaration of the Commissioner for Enlargement. I reiterate the deep concern of the EU and our partners for the destruction of pre-electoral climate and Edi Rama's attempt to manipulate the system before the next elections.
I repeat the stance of DP before and after the decree of President Meta that this is a grave blow to Albania's chances for European integration and the responsibility is only one.
Without discussion, I support this appeal of Commissioner Varhelyi on behalf of the EC and I hope that the Venice Commission intervenes to show very clearly what we demonstrated during all these months at the Political Council tableâ€, declared Basha among others.
