Elbasan Man Arrested for Smuggling Fuel from N.Macedonia

A 56-year-old man from Elbasan has been handcuffed as soon as he left the Qafe-Thana border crossing in an attempt to save money in the face of the food and fuel crisis. 

In the vehicle type "Benz", the Police seized 40 liters of diesel in two cans, which were filled as diesel in North Macedonia costs about 220 ALL, while in Albania it costs 260 ALL. 

"Food goods and quantities of oil, suspected of being smuggled, are seized. The driver of the vehicle that tried to bring them into our country is handcuffed. The services of the Border Police Station Qafë-Thanë, at the entrance of the Republic of Albania passed in the second line, for detailed control, the vehicle type ‘Benz’ driven by the citizen A. K., 56 years old, resident in Elbasan. 

From the control exercised on the vehicle, various goods, suspected of being smuggled (beverages, food products and 40 liters of oil) were found and seized as material evidence. Also, during the inspection of the vehicle, a change was found in the volume of its tank. 

Following the procedural actions, the specialists for the Investigation of Crimes in the Pogradec Police Commissariat made the arrest in flagrante delicto of the citizen A. K., for the criminal offense ‘Smuggling of goods for which excise is paid’”, explained the Police. 

Two days ago, a man was arrested at the Kapshtica border crossing point in Korça on charges of fuel smuggling. The Police Surveillance Agency said the arrested K. A. was filmed corrupting customs and border police officers to cross goods without paying customs duties. 

"Following the investigative actions, it was proven that the citizen was favored against the amounts in money, by police officers in cooperation with customs officers on duty, near this point", explained AMP. 

In connection with this event, two police inspectors at the border crossing point and a customs officer have been charged with corruption. 

Inspectors S. H., 37 years old, acting assistant / control specialist at Kapshtica BCP and A. B., 55 years old, acting assistant / control specialist at Kapshtica BCP, as well as customs officer V. S., 42 years old, were prosecuted at large, under the charge of “Abuse of office” and “Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions”. 

In this operation, a vehicle type "Sharon" was seized, quantities of monetary values ??illegally obtained from the activity of smuggling in the workplace, a significant amount of industrial goods, fuel, and other goods.
