EU Removes Accession Talks Discussion on Albania from Agenda

Enlargement process of the European Union in Luxembourg will be discussed at a meeting of the Bloc’s General Affairs Council on Tuesday, but no significant decision is expected for the countries awaiting the formalization of the start of negotiations.

And this time, Albania seems to be have been penalized by North Macedonia, have claimed the local media on Monday. Bulgaria has not given up its objection towards North Macedonia and as a result some countries do not want to discuss and decide only on Albania.

On their part, the Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty sources have revealed that all possibilities for the meeting to approve the frameworks for membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia have been eliminated.

According to the European Commission, both of these candidate countries have met all the conditions for launching membership negotiations, but the decision on such a step is taken in the Council only if all 27 EU member states agree on it.

On the other hand, the so-called intergovernmental conferences between the EU and Montenegro, and the EU with Serbia, will take place on Tuesday.

They will be of a political nature only and will not involve the opening or closing of any negotiating chapter. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministers of the European Union have started their meeting in Luxembourg on a range of topics, from the situation in Belarus to the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
