Ex-President Meta Blasts PM for Dismissing Chief Negotiator
Former President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, criticized on Monday morning Prime Minister Rama's decision to dismiss Albania's chief negotiator with the EU, Zef Mazi.
In a statement to the media from the headquarters of the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), Meta recalled that in 2004, he set up a political force to save the integration of Albania that was being "held hostage" by the Socialist Party (SP).
"There is not only July 24, there is also July 25. A new day, a new dawn and a new road. I came here today because I had a little nostalgia for this SMI document and because I am proud that in 2004 I raised a force political to save the integration of Albania that was held hostage by the SP and thanks to that extraordinary commitment of SMI, the kleptocracy rotation took place, lost over 20 or so mandates and thanks to that rotation, Albania signed the Stabilization Association Agreement.
We dismissed the chief negotiator without even starting the negotiations. Edi Rama holds Albania's integration into the European Union hostage", stated Meta.
