Fier Prosecution Sends Notary to Trial Over Alleged Repeated Forgery of Official Documents
Fier Prosecution concluded an investigation and sent a notary to trial on charges of repeatedly forging official notarial documents, including allegedly issuing acts under the names of other notaries.
According to the Fier Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant, identified as Anila Haxhiu, is accused of committing document forgery while acting in her professional capacity between 2011 and 2020. The case stems from criminal proceedings initiated in 2019.
Investigators allege that Haxhiu prepared and issued notarial documents using the names of other notaries who had not actually drawn up the documents. In other instances, she allegedly prepared notarial acts without the presence of the parties involved, despite their attendance being required for the transactions.
The investigation also uncovered vehicle sale contracts drawn up between 2011 and 2018 that were allegedly not entered into the relevant notarial registers of the notaries under whose names they were issued.
Prosecutors said that, in a significant number of cases, the name of a notary based in Tirana was allegedly used, while the documents were reportedly prepared in Fier by the defendant.
Haxhiu has been charged with “forgery of documents by a person responsible for issuing them,” committed more than once, under Article 186, Paragraph 3, of Albania’s Criminal Code.
The Prosecutor’s Office also confirmed that a separate investigation, registered under criminal proceeding No. 390/2023, has been concluded, and the same notary has been formally charged with the same criminal offense in that case.
The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a final court decision.
