The court of Tirana has sentenced this Wednesday, February 23, the Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti to 17 years in prison. 

Also the mother of Becchetti businessman, Liliana Condomitti was sentenced to 8 years in prison for laundering the proceeds of crime. While his accomplice Mauro De Renzis was sentenced to 16 years in prison. The Italian businessman continues to be on the run and has an international arrest warrant for him. 

We recall that Becchetti was charged by the Prosecution with 4 criminal offenses: "Theft by abuse of office", "Laundering the proceeds of crime or criminal activity", "Forgery of documents", "Creating fraudulent schemes related to value added tax." 

Prime Minister Edi Rama has heard the news about the sentence of Francesco Becchetti while he was testifying in the investigative committee for incinerators. 

"Because I received news that is like breaking news, Bechetti was sentenced to 17 years in prison. I hope it is not fake news like yours", said Rama, addressing the MPs present in the committee.
