Govt Meets Fuel Suppliers to Address Sky-High Increase in Prices

Prime Minister Edi Rama, with ministers Belinda Balluku and Delina Ibrahimaj are holding Friday a meeting with fuel suppliers, to discuss the consequences of the war on fuel prices and the direct intervention of the government.

On social networks, the Head of Government said that the National Board of Fuel Administration will be established because the emergency situation imposes direct government intervention to freeze profit margins as well as price transparency.

"With oil suppliers to curb any speculation about the consequences of the war on fuel prices

The state of emergency imposes direct government intervention to freeze profit margins as well as price transparency, so the National Fuel Management Board is set up immediately.

A Normative Act with the immediate force of law for coping with this emergency, will determine tomorrow the framework of obligations and limited rights of fuel suppliers, for a two-month period renewable according to the dynamics of the war", wrote Rama.

A day earlier in a public speech, Prime Minister Rama said that within 48 hours they will publish new measures for crisis management. One of the first measures announced by Rama is the creation of a board for oil.

According to the Prime Minister, no price in the oil market will be set without first approval by this board.

Immediately, Rama kept his word, while hundreds of citizens had gathered below the office in the square to oppose the price increase. On the second day of the protest there was also escalation, where several roads were blocked, while police escorted several people.

At 17:00 today, the next protest will be held again, while on Saturday it is expected to be more massive. There have also been protests in other cities of the country.
