Greek Minister to Visit Beleri in Durres Prison

Greece's Minister of State, Stavros Papastavrou, is expected to meet this Tuesday with the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is in prison.

According to the Greek media, the meeting is expected to take place at noon today in the prison of Durrës, where Beleri has been held for months.

Visit is made in function of the trial that will be held on Wednesday, to once again express support for him.

Court that will decide whether Fredi Beleri will be sworn in or not in the municipality of Himara is the Special Court of First Instance.

Candidate of the "Together We Win" coalition, Fredi Beleri, was arrested in the premises of a bar in Himare, just 2 days before the local elections of May 14, 2023, after he was caught red-handed with his colleague Pandeli Kokaveshi buying votes.

He has not been able to take office, as the judicial authorities did not give him permission to take the oath, and the Greek state has also reacted to this.
