Growth of Foreign Tourist Arrival Slows Down

Foreign visitors who entered the Albanian territory recorded a 7% increase in June compared to the same month a year ago.

Official figures from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) for the Movement of Citizens confirm a positive performance of the sector. However, the growth has slowed down significantly compared to the growth it marked a year ago.

The month of June 2024 recorded a 23% increase compared to June 2023, while the figures for the 6 months are significantly lower.

Thus, the INSTAT data shows that for the first six months, foreigners visiting the country increased by 4.8% compared to the first six months of last year. So far, the month with the best growth for this year was January, with a 14.4% increase in the number of foreign visitors.

June results are the second-best month. Signals for a slowdown in tourism were given by tour operators who lowered their expectations for growth similar to that of last year, while for the summer, they expect it to register fewer tourists than last summer.

In the first six months of 2024, the growth was 34% compared to the six months of 2023. This shows that Albania, which was at the top of social networks and promotional articles last year, although it has again recorded growth this year, is more modest, questioning the measures that need to be taken to improve the problems that affect the sector and to maintain this growth in the long term.

“During June 2025, 2,062,775 Albanian and foreign citizens entered the territory of the Republic of Albania. This indicator has increased by 7.6%, compared to June 2024. 1,918,569 Albanian and foreign citizens have exited the territory of the Republic of Albania, marking an increase of 7.2%, compared to the same period of the previous year,” INSTAT reported.

In June 2025, the number of Albanian citizens who entered the Albanian territory was 733,571, increasing by 8.5% compared to June 2024. The number of foreign citizens who entered the Albanian territory is 1,329,204. This number has increased by 7.1%, compared to the same period of 2024,” the agency noted.

A total of 710,963 Albanian citizens were counted as having left the territory of Albania in June, marking an increase of 10.7% compared to the same month of 2024.

The number of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during the month of June 2025 totaled 1,207,606. Compared to the same period a year earlier, this indicator has increased by 5.3% In June 2025, 94% of the entries of foreign citizens in Albania are from the European region. Southern Europe accounts for 70% of the entries of foreign citizens from the European continent, followed by Western Europe and Central/Eastern Europe with 11% each,” INSTAT said.
