Hearing on Fatmir Mediu Postponed

The decision for the former Minister of Defence, Fatmir Mediu is postponed in the Special Court of Appeals.

As reported, the reason for the postponement was the failure to notify the former minister for the session that would be examined in the counselling room. The next hearing is on September 24.

“With reference to the provision of point 1, letter b), of article 46 of law 98/2016 and, in the interest shown by the media, it is communicated in a summary way that, today on 17.09.2021, at 10:00, in the Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime, it was planned to review the case no. 212 act, dated 03.09.2021, on the complaint of the Special Prosecutor and the heirs of the victim E.D., a session which, according to article 427 / a point 4 of the Criminal Code, was postponed to continue on 24.09.2021, at 10:00, because one of the parties, specifically Mr. F.M. has not been informed regularly, ”the court announced.

The Special Court decided to terminate the investigation of the former Minister of Defence in connection with the explosion in Gerdec, but this decision was appealed by the SPAK (Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime).

Mediu is accused of abuse of office and it is now the Special Court of Appeals that is considering the SPAK's request to resume the investigation against him.

Meanwhile, the case against Mediu was earlier dismissed by the Supreme Court in 2009. But in February this year, the SPAK requested the reopening of the investigation into the former minister, following a report made by the Durda family.
