Italy, Albanian Saves Baby from Drowning

Tomorr Buzi was on a trip to Lake Braies in Trentino Alto Adige, with his wife and daughters, when he heard the screams of a woman desperately asking for help, accompanied by the cry of a baby, her four-month-old son.

He ran to save the little one risking his life as well. As soon as he realized the seriousness of the situation, Tomorr Buzi, a 43-year-old Albanian living in Romano di Lombardia, rushed towards the layer of ice that had covered the lake.

Walking on it would be impossible, given the small thickness of the ice, which caused 8 people to fall into the water last Monday.

Buzi crawled and rolled carefully on the ice, to reach the child in danger, until he could catch him.

"No one could ever resist the cries of a woman asking for help, much less the cries of a baby. He was so small and helpless. When I saw him, touched by instinct, I immediately ran to save him. It is a matter of seconds in which you think of nothing but your mission. Mine, at that moment, was to save him", declared Tomorri.

He did not pay attention to the clothes he was wearing, the cell phone and the wallet he had in his pocket.

"My wife and daughters were scared, I was not. At that moment I tried everything. But I was never afraid for my life. "That child was in danger, while my family was safe and that was enough to make me direct myself towards the young one", stated the Albanian.

After pulling him out of the frozen water, Tomorr Buzi placed the baby on the frozen surface waiting for help. He himself stood in the icy water. After help arrived, the two were rescued.

After a few days, the husband says he is proud of his action and underlines how his wife and daughters are, despite the apparent initial concern.

"I'm sorry - concludes the 43-year-old from Romano - as I disturbed my family, but I knew I was doing the right thing and I know that deep down they thought the same thing. "If I came back, I would do it again."

It was not long before the sincere congratulations of acquaintances, friends and the mayor of Romano, Sebastian Nicoli, arrived, who on Thursday morning met and personally thanked his fellow citizen.

Tomorri even received thanks from the mayor of Romano, Sebastian Nicoli, who praised him for the lack of hesitation to help a person in need.

"I was told that when Tomorri saw the child and his parents in danger, he did not hesitate to help them. An officer, overwhelmed by emotions as he recalled the dramatic moments, told me how he took the child in his arms from Tomorri, a child who escaped death thanks to the timely and heroic intervention of our fellow citizen. "I asked to meet Mr. Tomorr Buzi in person to have the opportunity to shake his hand, thank him and express on behalf of our entire community that we are proud of him," said the Mayor of Romano, Sebastian Nicoli.
