Human Error, Technical Defect Suspected as Cause of Bulgaria Bus Tragedy
Cause for the tragic accident where 45 people, among whom 12 children died in Bulgaria, may have been a human error or a technical problem of the vehicle, another version is the fact that the driver did not fall asleep, said the Director of the National Investigation Service, Borislav Sarafov.
The head of the Institute for Road Safety and former head of the Traffic Police, Bogdan Milchev, told the media that the cause could be a heart attack or any other problem that may have happened to the driver causing him to lose control of the vehicle. He also says that in Bulgaria it is the highest speed allowed regardless of the roads.
A road safety expert, Diana Rusinova, says that the reason for this tragedy with 45 victims may have been the lack of signage located on this axis.
So far, the versions that may have led to this event are very different, but the Minister of Interior emphasizes that this is one of the events that he has never seen and the investigation has the task of clarifying the causes.
The tragedy with 45 victims and 7 injured occurred this Tuesday morning near Bosnek, where a passenger bus with 52 passengers caught fire on the Stuma highway.
Bulgarian media report that it is suspected that the bus first hit the railing destroying 50 meters away from it, then crashed into the curb, where it is suspected that it could be one of the causes and why it is still not possible to confirm whether the fire broke out before or after the collision. .
Meanwhile there is still no final report on whether the number of victims is 45 or as stated in some media 46, confirmation will be given after their bodies are removed from the bus.
According to the Bulgarian authorities, their identity will be determined after the response of the DNA samples, as it is impossible to identify them due to the burns received by the bodies.
It is also expected to be clarified whether during the trip there was a transfer of passengers from one bus to another that may have led to the change of their initial list, which states that they are citizens of North Macedonia, among them there are also citizens of Albanian nationality.
Meanwhile, seven people managed to escape the flames and sure death, but they were placed in "Pirogov" with burns and injuries.
