Kosovo Constitutional Court Suspends President’s Decree to Dissolve Parliament

Kosovo’s Constitutional Court on Monday temporarily suspended a decree issued by President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve parliament, after lawmakers failed to elect a new president within the constitutional deadline of March 5.

The court said it imposed the measure ex officio and ordered a halt to any actions related to the decree, both by President Osmani and by the Assembly of Kosovo, until at least March 31.

According to the ruling, the temporary suspension is intended to allow the court time to review the case on its merits before making a final decision.

“The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, on March 9, 2026, unanimously decided to impose an interim measure prohibiting any action by the President of the Republic of Kosovo in relation to the Decree of March 6, 2026, and also prohibiting any action by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo until March 31,” the court said in its decision.
