Kosovo President Opposes EC Report on Vetting Process

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has strongly opposed the findings of the European Commission in the Progress Report regarding the "Vetting" process initiated by the Kurti Government.

Osmani said she did not agree at all with the finding in the Progress Report that a full and immediate re-evaluation of judges and prosecutors is a source of serious concern.

"I do not agree at all with this statement. In fact the lack of vetting would be a serious concern and not the fulfilment of this process. The non-implementation of vetting does not contribute to the efforts of the institutions for the rule of law, nor to the European future of our country", said President Osmani in a press conference.

Osmani stated that she does not agree with the second statement in the Progress Report that the full re-evaluation Vetting process should be an extraordinary last resort when all other possibilities have been exhausted.

"Even this statement is wrong, because the existing mechanisms are here and have not been effective. The EU itself has been criticizing these for years. Vetting is therefore not only important, but essential. Contrary to what is stated in the Report, this process will be comprehensive and will continue. Reforms in the justice system will not be possible with the existing mechanisms. Vetting will be done by standards. As the president of the country, I demand that the process continue and not stop and accelerate. I encourage the institutions to continue their work", said Osmani.
