Mediu Highlights Importance of Electoral, Territorial Reform
This Tuesday, the new parliamentary session began, where the leaders of the parliamentary groups revealed the priorities of the political forces they represent. Chairman of the "Alliance for Change" Parliamentary Group and the head of the Republican Party (RP) Fatmir Mediu, stated during his speech that the priority of the work of the Assembly this session should be an electoral reform that ensures free and fair elections, as well as a territorial reform that serves the interests of citizens and not the interests of political parties.
He also added that the parliament has the obligation to provide all Albanian citizens, wherever they are, the opportunity to vote and be elected.
"The challenges are extremely big. Albania is living through difficult times that are not only economic. I think we have an urgent obligation to guarantee an electoral reform that ensures free and fair elections, where MPs are not elected by parties but by citizens. Guaranteeing the opportunity to choose and be chosen by all Albanians wherever they are. Another important issue is the territorial reform, which should serve the citizens and not the electoral interests", he said.
Mediu emphasized that the country is in a difficult economic situation and emphasized the need to take anti-crisis measures to help Albanian families.
"Corruption has returned to the system, international institutions surrender Albania to the highest positions. Albania is facing a serious economic crisis.
We have an even bigger crisis, which is the loss of citizens' trust, which is accompanied by the mass departure of young people from the country.
Today, unfortunately, there is no difference between crime and business, and unfortunately we inspire more of this situation, the interest of the government dominates the interest of the citizens.
The primary task of the government is to define policies to support Albanian families", said Mediu.
