Merger of All Food Inspectorates; Denaj
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anila Denaj, stated on MCN TV that the National Food Agency (AKU) will merge and join all food inspectorates.
The statement comes after a scandal with a case of poultry meat contaminated with salmonella that entered the country and was distributed in the market.
The Minister further emphasized that all new inspectorates will create an institution that will implement its policies for fisheries, plants, and animal products and will not depend on a general director, but on three levels of monitoring.
"In September last year, a law was approved that will be implemented by the end of the year, with all the legal acts that the inspectorates will be reorganized, the AKU will be merged and will join all the food inspectorates. All of them will create an institution that will implement its policies, for fishing, plants, and animal products and will not depend on a general director, nor the minister, but on an entire system, because we cannot manage only with people, but with three levels of monitoring," said Denaj.
