More Covid Deaths than Reported, Health Ministry Clarifies

The Ministry of Health has reacted to the statements of the Democratic Party, regarding the article of "The Economist" which has reported on the number of deaths from coronavirus in over 186 countries of the world.

In a press release, the Ministry of Health says that the DP has distorted the findings of the prestigious newspaper, and misinterpreted them. According to the Ministry, "The Economist" has reported on an estimated Excess deaths.

"According to this estimate, worldwide, the number of additional deaths from Covid-19 and its consequences is estimated to be 4 times higher than the number of fatalities reported by Covid-19 (out of about 5.5 million fatalities in the world, additional mortality as a result of COVID-19 is estimated to be around 19.1 million). Even in Albania, according to this assessment based on statistical simulations, the same coefficient is determined as the world average " it is said in the announcement of the ministry.

Extra fatalities (estimated excess deaths) is a difference in the number of victims reported over a given week or month, with the number of predicted deaths.

Full response of the Ministry of Health:

"Based on the untrue statements of the Democratic Party, on the so-called "concealment of deaths from Covid-19", the Ministry of Health and Social Protection guarantees the citizens that all cases of fatalities reported by Covid hospitals have been reported correctly, throughout the period of the pandemic.

The Economist article, which the Democratic Party reads and interprets in a distorted way, as it has done throughout the pandemic, refers to an estimate of additional fatalities. According to this estimate, worldwide, the number of additional deaths from Covid-19 and its consequences is estimated to be 4 times higher than the number of fatalities reported by Covid-19 (out of about 5.5 million fatalities in the world, mortality additional as a result of COVID-19 is estimated to be around 19.1 million). Even in Albania, according to this assessment based on statistical simulations, the same coefficient is determined as the world average.

According to the report of "The Economist", the estimated excess mortality for Albania is lower than countries in the region and beyond, such as Montenegro, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria.

We feel sorry for the "dance of death" that the Democratic Party continues to insist on pandemic fatal figures."
