Myzeqe Farmers Seeks Subsidies from Govt

Protest of farmers in the Myzeqe area who have asked the government for subsidies for their agricultural products, ended after an hour this Friday.

Initially the farmers' gathering started quietly while numerous police forces and FNSH were on the ground to prevent the protesters from blocking the national axis.

But despite this, the farmers managed to break the police cordon and sat in the middle of the road blocking the traffic on the national axis between Lushnja and Tirana.

According to information, the farmers clashed with the blue uniforms who accompanied some of them. After more than 30 minutes, the farmers left allowing the normal circulation of the national axis, Tirana - Lushnje.

"You have until the day after tomorrow to react to give us subsidies, otherwise we will completely block the national road Lushnje - Tirana", said a farmer giving an ultimatum to the government.

Myzeqe farmers have come out in protest by opposing the new fiscal package for imposing a 10% VAT on agricultural inputs while their price has risen from the global energy crisis.

Farmers are also seeking subsidies from the government, while over 100 police and FNSH personnel have landed on the ground.

On his part, Prime Minister Edi Rama has posted a photo on social networks where he responds to the farmers' protest as he writes: “Support for farmers +42% compared to 2021 or in other words 7.1 billion support for farmers and investments in rural development.
