Nearly 30 Drunk Drivers Arrested in Two Weeks of June

Police have punished drivers who gave drunk vehicles in the first two months of June. Official data revealed that 27 drivers were arrested after resulting to have had alcohol levels above 0.50 mg/l in their blood.

State Police also informed that 83 driving licenses were suspended as it stressed that the high levels of alcohol are threatening every day more and more drivers, since it is a potential risk for road accidents.

“Officers of the Regional Commissariat of Traffic Police in Tirana, in order to prevent road accidents, assessing that driving while intoxicated is a potential risk for road accidents, up to fatal consequences, have reorganized alternate checks on schedules and vehicles on various vehicles, including public transport service vehicles, as the drivers, with irresponsibility beyond the usual, have dared to drive while drunk public transport vehicles, even with 50 passengers, to tourist destinations.

This situation, but also other findings of this nature, can not only be a concern and object of the Police, but the drivers themselves must reflect on the danger they threaten themselves and others with by driving the vehicle in this condition.

Transport entities must also strengthen controls on the discipline of public service drivers while serving in these vehicles and of course, citizens, as the most important allies of the Police, should refuse to travel with them or worse be transported by drivers of public service that manifest behaviors of alcohol use or other drugs and psychotropic substances and immediately notify the Police bodies in the emergency number 112”, stated the law enforcement.
