MP of the Democratic Party (DP), Ina Zhupa has addressed Wednesday the Constitutional Court to request the immediate suspension of Skënder Gjinushi as head of the Academy of Sciences. 

In a statement to the media, Zhupa said that Gjinushi has politically served Prime Minister Edi Rama. 

Furthermore, she underlined that the country's history cannot be written by a man who is scientifically mediocre, politicized and illegal. 

"In the current lawsuit related to an illegality for the Academy of Sciences. The illegality is related to the President of the Academy of Sciences, Mr. Skënder Gjinushin, who is at the head of the Academy of Sciences, who remains unappointed at that time, Mr. Ilir Meta. 

To clarify the lawsuit, I would like to share with you two or three main elements. At the moment that Skënder Gjinushi was elected president of the Constitutional Court, according to the law he should have been a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences. 

To be a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences, you cannot be the head of a political party. At that time, Skënder Gjinushi was the chairman of the Social-Democratic Party, and could not be elected chairman of the Academy of Sciences, not being a permanent member. Exactly, this violation was also evidenced by President Meta, when the name of Skënder Gjinushi was brought to him for nomination", declared the Democrat.
