Police Clashes with Residents as Demolition of Houses at ‘5 Maji’ Goes On

Police clashed with residents of '5 Maji' neighborhood in Tirana after National Inspectorate for Protection of Territory (IKMT) begun to demolish their homes in the area. 

Albaniandailynews.com learned that dozens were were accompanied in the van after they objected the demolition process.

During the debate between the police and the escorted residents, one of the officers used offensive words after the latter asked him not to hit him.

"Do not hit, where are you here", said the citizen to the officer who forcibly puts him in the van.

But the policeman addressed him with the words: "Stay calm there, no one is hitting you...", and then asks his colleague: "Leave him there until they calm down, when he calms down we will take him to the place".

"You think very highly of yourself", told another citizen inside the van to the police.

While the colleague of the latter addresses the resident: “You will stay comfortable there, man. Leave it alone now, brother".

In the background is heard the daughter of one of the citizens who tries to communicate with her father and says: “Daddy! Calm down, daddy".

Buildings at '5 Maji' street in capital will be demolished in the name of 'reconstruction' process after damages caused by the deadly quake of November 26. Government promised to compensate all those citizens affected by this decision and to give the same house they had in the new reconstructed area. But residents do not accept the deal saying that they want their homes.
