President Biden Nominates New Ambassador to Kosovo
President of the United States, Joe Biden, has nominated for US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey M. Hovenier, who is expected to succeed the current Ambassador, Philip Kosnett after confirmation by the US Senate.
Hovenier is a career foreign service diplomat who has been part of the staff of the United Nations Special Envoy for Kosovo. Hovenier is currently the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. He has also served at the US Embassy in Berlin as well as US missions in Croatia, Greece, Panama, Paraguay and Peru.
In Washington, he has served as Director of Central and Southeast European Affairs at the National Security Council and at the State Department Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs with responsibility for NATO and Central European Affairs.
Outgoing Ambassador Kosnett announced today that his deputy, Nick Giacobbe, will be in charge until the arrival of the new ambassador. He said that being the ambassador of the United States in Kosovo was a "great honor".
"I leave convinced of the ability of the people of Kosovo to build a better future for all," Kosnett said in a Twitter post. Kosnett's three-year term ends at the end of the year.
