President Raises Alarm over High Costs of Roads' Construction in Albania

The President of the country Ilir Meta has reacted regarding the concessions given by the Rama government, mainly those for the construction of roads. Through a social media post, the head of state declares that PPPs and concessions clearly prove government corruption and clientelism.

The President also adds the fact that the cost of road construction in Albania is higher than in European Union countries, clearly showing the abuse of public funds.

"Concessions and PPPs are clearly proving their delivery in a corrupt and clientelist manner. This is shown by the unstoppable increase in the cost of construction, mainly of roads.

The fact that the construction of roads in Albania, is more expensive than in the countries of the European Union and the region, is a very significant indicator of abuse of public funds.

These practices are very harmful to the country's economy, especially to the aggravation of the state budget and the unstoppable growth of public debt.

It is vital to increase efforts to minimize the granting of concessions, strengthen the rule of law and punish those responsible at the highest state levels involved in these affairs," Meta said.
