Reconstruction-Affected Warn Violent Protests after Losing Houses
Residents of four areas of Tirana, which were affected by the earthquake, moved their protest in front of the Prime Minister's building, this Sunday noon.
One of the residents of the "5 May" neighborhood stressed that they are not against the development of the area, but cannot be treated with a normative act, as he warned of escalation of the protest.
Moreover, he stated that they are owners and not occupiers and that they have been seeking clarification from the authorities for months about the fate of their properties.
"We have been living for more than 20 years and with a civil code we are owners and not occupiers. The mayor said last night that they are occupiers, living in huts. I did not expect this mayor to receive the votes of these residents. We have been protesting for 4 months for the property.
Our word has not been heard. We protested for the right to property. We asked them to give us a public hearing, an explanation. We have not really been given any explanation. I have been in the process of legalization for 17 years. I have been in that area for 35 years since I was born. What governments have come and gone only promises. We do not want promises, but concrete things.
We are not against the development of that area, but do not treat us with a normative act for natural disasters. We treat us as owners. I personally go out in the middle of the road tomorrow for a reason. DCM is not a law. I call Erion Veliaj, today you are, tomorrow someone else is coming. on the 22nd and the apartment breaks down at 10. On the 22nd my daughter has a birthday and my house breaks down. I guarantee that there will be violent protests, but also hunger strikes", pronounced the citizen.
