Reconstruction of a Kindergarten with Energy Efficiency Measures in Milot Inaugurated

Around 35 children and kindergarten's teachers in Milot will spend a warmer and more comfortable winter by saving on even in the electricity bill. The construction process of this kindergarten underwent energy efficiency measures, which included cladding the facade, installing thermal windows and heating water from solar panels.

This efficient investment was implemented by the Municipality of Kurbin in the framework of the "Pathway to the efficient use of local natural resources" project, with the funds of the Cross-Border Program Albania - Kosovo of the IPA II Pre-Accession Instrument of the European Union.

The inauguration ceremony of this investment, was greeted by the mayor of Kurbin, Mrs. Majlinda Cara, Mr. Erjon Tase, Director of the Academy of Political Studies; Mr. Ardian Metaj, project manager of the Delegation of the European Union in Albania and Mr. Enver Shabani, director for Economic Development, Suharekë Municipality.

They emphasized in their speeches, the importance of implementing this investment for the comfort of the children but also the importance to increase the community awareness to contribute and cooperate towards a greener and more sustainable future.

After the unveiling of the investment table, as a symbolic inauguration' process, the attendees visited also the interior environment in order to familiarize with the efficiency measures implemented.

The last maintenance works in the building were carried out around the years 2000, avoiding the minimum efficiency standards. The humidity, a characteristic of the area, created problems for the health of the children and their teachers. The thermal insulation and heating with heat pumps with an inverter system will eliminate classroom combustion stoves, which worsened the air quality inside the classrooms.

Information on energy efficiency was further made available at the stands of the Kurbin Artisan and Culinary Fair 2024. Businesses from Kurbin and Suhareka, the two partners of the project, exhibited to the many visitors of this celebration organized by the municipality of Kurbin the products for increasing efficiency in the building.

The project stand also shared information materials for interested citizens about the benefits of efficient measures in public and private buildings. The recyclable bags that were distributed to visitors serve to discourage the use of plastic bags by citizens.

The "Pathway to efficient use of local natural resources" program is also providing capacity building for municipal staff as well as other local actors in Kurbin and Suhareka to collaborate towards a greener and more sustainable future. The project is implemented by the Academy of Political Studies, the Prishtina Institute for Political Studies, Kurbin Municipality and Suharekë Municipality.
