Record amount of Heroin Seized in Romania

A record amount of heroin has been seized in Romania. According to foreign media, it is about a load of 1.4 tons of heroin that was seized thanks to the cooperation of nine other European Union countries and the Romanian authorities.

Officials have named it the second-largest shipment of hard drugs in the European Union seized in recent years. The illegal cargo was discovered on May 10 hidden in containers transporting construction materials on a ship anchored in Constanta that was sailing from Iran to Romania, while its destination was designated Western European countries.

Romanian police estimated the value of the drugs at 45m euros, but if it were to enter the European market, the drugs in question would reach staggering figures. The number of suspects arrested has not yet been revealed by Romanian authorities.

The operation involved Europol, the US Drug Enforcement Administration and law enforcement agencies from Hungary, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and France.
