Road Traffic Rules to Be Tightened Soon

Interior Minister, Sander Lleshaj has gathered the directors of the Road Traffic Police to discuss the new tightened measures, announcing that they will enter in force soon.

Lleshaj announces that within a few weeks the package with changes in the Road Code will go to the Parliament for voting, while it provides for toughening of some measures.

Minister Lleshaj further emphasizes that Albania compared to the EU is behind in terms of road safety and the latter is measured by 8 indicators that the Police must denounce and investigate.

"At the beginning of this year, we declared that 2020 is an important year, which is also called the Year of Road Safety, with the objective of intensifying the effort to significantly reduce the number of accidents and their consequences.

Fortunately, it must be said that the indicators for this year are positive for a number of reasons, where of course the good work of the Police is one of the reasons.

We still have a high loss of human life ratio compared to EU countries. Of course, the EU is the safest area in the world in terms of road safety, because it has the highest standards in this area. But in relation to the EU in this area, we are still behind and we have to measure ourselves," declared Lleshaj.
