Serbia Ready to Trade Electricity for Coal with Kosovo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated this Wednesday in Ohrid at the end of the Open Balkans summit that he is ready to make an agreement with Pristina to receive a quantity of coal in exchange for electricity supply. "If they do not want that, we can pay for coal, but we are certainly ready to talk about it", the president said during a press conference from Ohrid.

He added that he is convinced that he will soon negotiate with Kosovo representatives on this topic. Vucic stated that he will not focus on Kosovo's position regarding the Open Balkans on whether or not it will join the initiative.

The Serbian president added that the Open Balkans initiative originates from the region. "We need to understand how important it is to connect, to talk, to know that we need each other. This is the essence of the initiative. This is in the interest of the people because the Balkans must belong to the Balkan peoples," he said.
