SP Rules Out Possibility of New Territorial Division

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ermonela Felaj, has stated that the majority is against the opposition project for the new territorial division with 92 municipalities, adding that the new territorial map is based on the electoral account of the Democratic Party and not on the interests of the citizens.

"We are for a territorial division that has 61 municipalities. If we were to accept changes for the territorial administrative division, we would make it serve to increase the service of the citizens, but when the territorial reform is required for electoral reasons, the purpose of being a function of the public has fallen. So we cannot submit to this. It is requested to make municipalities of very small territories, not being guided by the analysis for the improvement of population services. It is a pure electoral analysis. Here we disagree. We are not in that commission to secure someone's electoral accounts," she said.

Furthermore, Felaj added that SPAK should respond to public criticisms, maintain a stance towards them even when they come from political parties.

"The prosecutor's office, the courts are institutions that are at the center of public criticism. I would have liked SPAK to respond to public criticism, to take a stand against them even when they come from political parties. We have our considerations, but this is not an attack on institutions. The issue of giving justice is not a matter of prioritization,  It's a matter of prioritizing everything, it's your duty to go to the end, uncover and bring to justice every violation. The request to bring to justice Berisha and Meta or other former political functionaries who may be MPs or party leaders comes from the belief that these people, once again, have violated the law and it is not possible for them to override the law.We are looking for prosecutors and judges who, precisely because the law has placed them in a position to act with integrity and professionalism, can do this and reflect it in their work. We are not looking for opportunistic judges and prosecutors. Someone has chosen to do the opportunist. We have not been silent. We asked for action", the deputy speaker of the Parliament declared.
