Spain: Albanian Drug Trafficking Gang Dismantled, Nine Arrested
Spanish authorities have cracked down on an international drug trafficking ring made up of Albanian nationals operating west of Almeria. 9 people were handcuffed, while 400 kilograms of hashish were seized during the operation.
The official announcement of the Spanish Police states that the group intended to traffic drugs through road transport. The operation codenamed "Menthan" took place in Aguadulce and VÃcar, as criminal activity was concentrated in these two areas.
Police Director MarÃa Gámez said investigations revealed that the detainees were part of a faction of an international organization linked to the Italian mafia, the Sacra Corona Unita. The operation started in April last year, when a person was arrested who was transporting 26 kg of cannabis.
Continuing the investigation, the agents discovered that behind this transport there was an organized and highly specialized criminal network, which had considerable economic and human resources and that it had the necessary contacts to capture a considerable part of the market.
