Student Protests Enter Fourth Day in Tirana as Clashes, Tear Gas and Arrests Escalate
Student-led protests continued in Albania’s capital for a fourth consecutive day, with clashes between demonstrators and police intensifying along the central “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard.
The main thoroughfare, which has been the focal point of demonstrations for several hours, has been left strewn with stones, metal objects, iron bars and other debris, while police have deployed tear gas and carried out multiple detentions, according to reports from the scene.
The unrest has also affected public institutions, businesses, banks and other private enterprises, with reports of damage to buildings and property amid the ongoing turmoil.
Albania’s State Police has repeatedly addressed the public, stating that it guarantees the constitutional right of citizens, students and political groups to demonstrate peacefully.
However, police have stressed that the right to protest cannot be used to justify violence, arson, looting or the destruction of public and private property.
As demonstrations continue across the capital, tensions remain high, with the situation highlighting growing concerns over public order, property damage and the safety of protesters, police officers and bystanders.
