Switzerland Lifts Visas for Kosovo Citizens

The Federal Council of Switzerland has decided that from January 1, 2024, citizens of Kosovo can enter this country without a visa. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, but is part of the Schengen Area.

In April, the European Union decided that citizens of Kosovo will be able to travel without visas to the 27 member states of the bloc, starting from January 1 next year.

The Federal Council said through an announcement that Kosovo has met all the requirements for visa waiver, in terms of security, border controls and migration management.

All citizens of Kosovo will be able to enter Switzerland only with a biometric passport and can stay up to 90 days. This duration also applies to the stay in the 27 EU countries.

The Federal Council of Switzerland announced that if citizens of Kosovo want to work in this country, they must be equipped with a work visa. According to the announcement, Kosovar citizens can work in Switzerland only if they are qualified professionals or if there are no equivalent workers in the Swiss labor market.

Switzerland recognizes Kosovo's independence and there is a large Kosovar diaspora in this country.
