Court of Tirana has approved Friday the request of the Democratic Party (DP) Re-establishment group to register the statutory changes approved in the Assembly held on December 11 last year

This decision of the Court legitimizes the Re-establishment Commission and the Assembly of December, convened by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

On December 11, 2021, Berisha held the National Assembly, where it also casted a secret ballot on the dismissal of now-resigned DP Chair Lulzim Basha, from the position of chairman, during the proceedings of the delegates’ gathering.

"Pursuant to Article 43 of the statute of the Democratic Party, upon the proposal of a group of delegates, the National Assembly decided to vote by secret ballot of the delegates for the dismissal of the leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha, for seriously damaging political interests.

Voting will take place during the Assembly. The sheet contains the question. Do you agree with the dismissal of Lulzim Basha? The decision-making issued by the Assembly will be put to a vote in each branch of the Democratic Party on December 18, 2021.

The ballot paper in the referendum should contain the question. Do you agree with the decision of the National Assembly to dismiss Lulzim Basha? This decision is approved by open voting and enters into force immediately", said Këlliçi at the time.

However, in the Assembly convened by Berisha on December 11, 2021, a new statute was approved which stipulates that the president has no right to run again, in case the party loses the general elections and does not result in a winning governing force.

The new statute approved by Berisha's supporters aims to invalidate the 18th national assembly convened by Lulzim Basha, sanctioning that any other decision taken after the statute enters into force is automatically repealed.

The document issued by the Assembly of Berisha states that after the Assembly for the next 4 months there will be a Temporary Re-establishment Commission that takes over the executive leadership of the DP until the final constitution of the governing bodies.

For this issue, the Democratic Party (DP) General Secretary, Gazment Bardhi threw accusations against the judge last night, saying the hearing was scheduled only after he met with a Berisha representative.
