Two Ecuador Albanian Drug Lords’ Criminal Past Unveiled

Two Albanian men who were previously convicted in Antwerp for cocaine smuggling have been arrested in Albania and Ecuador, the Belgian media report. 

Mirlind Balla received five years in prison in the organization with Frank Masmeijer, fruit trader Nezdet Vokshi received seven and is still wanted in the Netherlands.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, he was arrested at the request of the Netherlands. Nezdet Vokshi was arrested in Peru in 2012, at the request of Antwerpen authorities. Pending the extradition procedure, the drug boss was placed under house arrest in Peru.

After the judge had ruled that he could be extradited to Belgium, Vokshi was found to have had escaped. Peru has launched a corruption probe into several police officers who may have played a dubious role in overseeing house arrest. The outcome of that investigation is unknown, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

However, Vokshi has been on the Interpol Red List since March 15 after investigative services found his whereabouts. According to investigations he had been on the run since 2010 and initially fled to Peru.

The 52-year-old was caught driving a Ford truck on the road leading to the urbanization of Ciudad Celeste, an area near his Villa Club residence.

He was in Ecuador with his wife and daughter since 2018, the year in which he crossed from Peru to Ecuador across the land border. After the arrest, the police seized 6 more mobile phones.

From the research done Vokshi was registered as a fruit trader in Ecuador. He has long been able to escape the authorities, and it turns out that he was also registered as a trader in Barcelona, ??Spain.
