U.S. Embassy Issues Security Alert for American Citizens Amid Ongoing Protests in Tirana

The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has issued a security alert for American citizens in Albania as nightly anti-government protests continue outside the Prime Minister's Office in the capital.

In its advisory, the embassy warned that while demonstrations often begin peacefully, they can quickly escalate and spread to other areas, including government institutions. The notice also cautioned that increased police presence, road closures, traffic diversions, and movement restrictions are expected during the protests.

The embassy urged U.S. citizens to avoid demonstration areas, remain vigilant, and maintain an emergency plan in case the security situation deteriorates.

The advisory further encouraged Americans to monitor local media for updates, stay aware of their surroundings, avoid distractions while in public, and keep a low profile when traveling through areas affected by the demonstrations.

The security alert comes as protests in Tirana have continued for several consecutive days, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government. Albanian authorities have also reinforced security measures around key state institutions as tensions persist.
